Joe’s club management experience spans four decades in St. Louis and Detroit.
A graduate of MSU’s Hospitality School, he is an accomplished public speaker who has authored several industry publications. In 2002, Joe attained the Master Club Manager designation, the highest level of achievement for professional managers.
Joe currently serves as chairman of the Master Club Manager Academic Council, overseeing its Certification Program. In his spare time, Joe serves his community by helping coordinate fundraising efforts for charities, including the St. Louis Edgewood Children’s Center, Clubs Collecting for Communities and the Ronald McDonald House Charity Golf Tournament.
Barb joined BCC in 1989 as secretary to the General Manager. Soon after, she realized that her true calling was in hospitality, and moved into various positions at the Club, including Catering Coordinator, Membership Secretary and Membership Director. Barb is married with two grown daughters who live on the west side of the state.
A 26-year veteran of BCC, Jill is not only the Controller of BCC, she’s also is a proud MSU grad, married to Mike, also a Spartan. Together, they have two Sparty children: Derek, an engineer, and Kristen, a Conference Coordinator with Marriott in Dallas.
Joe has been the Head Golf Professional at Birmingham Country Club since 2014 and a Class-A Member of the PGA of America since 2000. Joe brings over 20 years of experience as a golf professional encompassing every aspect of the golf industry. In addition to Michigan, Joe has spent time living in Iowa and Florida. His passion is leading BCC’s golf operation and providing the best possible golf experience to BCC members and their guests. When not at the club, Joe enjoys spending time with his family, wife Jessica and their 2 children, Reid and Lily.
Steve is in his 4th season here at Birmingham CC. He comes to us with over 25 years of experience in the golf industry and is considered a life member of the PGA. Steve brings a wealth of teaching experience ranging from beginners to professionals. His passion is watching all players improve whether it's just getting the ball airborne or winning your first club event to breaking par for the first time. Steve is also a very accomplished player; Steve played in the PGA Tour’s 2004 Buick Open and has qualified for three National Club Professional Championships. Steve is married to Michelle who is on the MGT Team at Oakland Hills CC and they have three kids Cameron, Trevor and Kaylin. They enjoy following their children's sporting activities as well as hosting dinner parties, cooking and wine.
Ryan has been an Assistant Golf Professional at Birmingham Country Club since 2011 and has over 15 years of experience working in the golf industry. Ryan began his career at Twin Beach Country Club in West Bloomfield, MI in 2003, he then attended the Professional Golfers Career College in Kissimmee Florida and is now an apprentice to become a Member of the PGA of America. Ryan lives in White Lake and enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica and their two children, Avery and Lucas.
Katie is from Fort Wayne, Indiana where most of her family still lives. She started golfing in high school which eventually led her up north to play for Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. She played there for four years while concentrating on her Marketing degree. She has worked at local golf courses including the Moors Golf Club and Indian Run Golf Club in the Kalamazoo area. Katie most recently worked at Walnut Creek Country Club where she managed and merchandised the Golf Shop. She enjoys hitting the links and spending time with her family. Katie is married to Jason; they have two sons, Zach and Aaron.
Scott Coleman , BCC’s Golf Services Manager, began his career in the golf industry in 1993 at Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club. His eleven year stay at Grosse Ile began as a caddie then moved into the Assistant Golf Services Manager. He then moved on to Orchard Lake Country Club as the Golf Services Manager for 3 years and then on to Western Golf and Country Club in 2005 where he worked as the Golf Services Manager until joining BCC in 2013. Scott and his family have a long history in the golf industry. His father and two uncles have worked as Golf Services Managers at area clubs for a combined total of over 83 years between them.
Scott is currently finishing his ABA at Henry Ford College. He lives in Trenton with his wife of 8 years, Carrie and two children, Rachel, 7, and Nathan, 5.
Ryan began working at BCC in 2007 on the First Tee Staff under Des Crowley. He worked as general First Tee Staff until 2012 when he was promoted to Assistant Golf Services Manager. Ryan grew up in Birmingham, attended Seaholm High School and Oakland University where he studied History. Ryan is currently in the PGA Apprenticeship Program aspiring to reach Class A PGA Professional status. He would ultimately love to become a Head Golf Professional. In his free time Ryan enjoys golfing or hanging out with friends
Since 2011, Dan has cared for the grounds of BCC. He arrived with plenty of experience from Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club, Tam O'Shanter Country Club, and three years on Long Island, New York at Pine Hollow Country Club. Dan is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and currently serves as the Vice President of the Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association. He and his wife Angela have two boys, Tyler and William.
A metro Detroit native, Rich received his formal training at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Prior to joining BCC, he worked at Forest Lake Country Club, Orchard Lake Country Club, and as an adjunct professor at Oakland Community College. Rich is passionate about approachable global cuisine rooted in French technique, and is an avid supporter of local farms and sustainable practices.
Growing up in a small town in St. Clair Country, Chad discovered his passion for cooking at a very young age with the guidance of his father, also a chef. Chad began his career as the sous chef at The Tin Fish Resort, then joined BCC in 2009, where he worked his way up to executive sous chef. An avid hunter and fisherman, Chad takes great pride in serving the freshest local wild game and seafood Michigan has to offer.
Michelle joined the BCC team in July of 2016. She is a CMU grad with a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Administration & Event Management. Prior to her current position, Michelle held various management positions at Westin Hotels & Resorts and oversaw more than 200 weddings and six NFL events. Michelle keeps up with industry trends through her love of travel and by networking with Detroit event professionals.
I have been a part of the BCC staff for over two decades. I came from the Navy in 1990 and began my career at BCC as a busser. Throughout the years I worked my way through the Food and Beverage Department to the Manager's position. I am here and happy to assist so please don’t hesitate to ask.
Gabriela joined the BCC team in April of 2015. She will be graduating in spring 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Prior to her current position, Gabriela worked for a small family business where she developed and implemented training programs and assisted in the openings of new restaurants. Gabriela is dedicated to focusing on her career development after graduation through the Club Managers Associations of America and becoming certified as a Sommelier. Foodie at heart, Gabriela stays on top of the latest Food & Beverage trends by visiting new restaurants in the Metro Detroit Area
Casey joined the BCC team in 2017 as the Food and Beverage Intern. She will be graduating Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Prior to BCC, Casey has had previous intern experience at Pine Lake Country Club. Throughout her time at GVSU, Casey had great relationships with her Hospitality department. She was involved in a lot of local Grand Rapids fundraising events like Experience Pink (Susan G. Komen) and Laughfest (Gildas Club GR).
Danny is enjoying another season as our head coach. He spent 5 years as an assistant coach at Oakland Hills Country Club, and is the current Head Coach of the Cranbrook Middle School Girls Swim Team and the assistant coach for the Cranbrook High School Girls Varsity Team. Danny attends U of D Mercy, working toward a degree in Secondary Education with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Political Science.
As well as serving as the Racquets Director at BCC Mike is the President of Baseline Tennis. Mike’s previous assignments with Baseline Tennis include, General Manager of Farmington Tennis Club, head pro at Birmingham Athletic Club and manager of the Birmingham Racquet Club. Prior to working at Baseline Tennis he spent six years as the Sports Director at The Sports Club of West Bloomfield where he worked for 16 years. He has been very involved in all aspects of Southeastern Michigan tennis, serving on the USTA S.E. Michigan board, USPTA Midwest Board, Competitive Training Center Coach, USTA District Endorser, Cystic Fibrosis Tennis Auction Ball and many others. He played four years of Varsity Tennis at Oakland University and graduated with a degree in Marketing in 1991. His top tennis achievement may have come when he and three other Michigan professionals were inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for 111 hours of continuous doubles play in 1990
Ben is a graduate of the Ferris State Professional Tennis Management program and is certified through the USPTA and the PTR. He has been teaching with Baseline Tennis since May 2014. Prior to the Head Pro position at BCC Ben spent two seasons as the Assistant Director at BOH and has taught in St. Clair shores MI at the Wimbledon Racquet Club as well as the Querbes tennis center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Gordon lived in England for 10 years in the 1960's then moved back to the States in 1969. He enlisted in the US Army in 1972; he served tours in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Japan and Panama. His last stop was Fort Ord in California where he retired from the military with many metals and combinations after 21 years of service. Gordon met his wife, Susan in 1986 and they were married in August of 1987. BCC's Mr. Halloween (Gordon) has been with the club for 25 years because it is a great place to work.
Gary began his career at BCC in September of 1990 as the Maintenance Assistant. He was promoted to Maintenance Manager in 1992 when longtime Maintenance Manager, Doc, retired. The Club helped in developing Gary’s professional skills by sending him to school to train as an Electrician. He graduated from the Associated Builders & Contractors Association in 1998. He has gained full knowledge of the building structure throughout the years and developed great relationships with both the Members and the Staff. Gary lives near his Nieces and God-daughters and is very involved in their day to day lives.
