The Birmingham Country Club Scholarship Trust is an educational fund established by the Members of Birmingham Country Club to assist deserving Birmingham Country Club caddies and employees with their higher education costs.

The Trust provides annual awards of up to $2,000 each to employees and caddies. The Trust was founded in 1993 as a way to express our gratitude to the Club’s staff for their service by supporting their pursuit of higher education. In 2011, the Trustees established the Des Crowley Memorial Scholarship, in memory of BCC’s longtime golf services manager and caddie master. This $3,000 scholarship is earmarked for caddies and golf services staff only who are exemplary contributors to the BCC Golf Experience in tribute to Des and the standards he set for his staff. The Trust is funded by Member contributions and investment gains. It stands as a self-perpetuating trust but contributions are needed to ensure its growth.

To be eligible for the Birmingham Country Club Scholarship the following qualifications must be met:

  • Must have completed your senior year in high school
  • Must have a 3.0 or better grade point average in high school, or your last semester in college
  • Must be an employee of Birmingham Country Club with a minimum of 250 hours service or a minimum of 50 loops (or a combination of hours worked and loops caddied – 1 loop is equivalent of 4 hours service).
  • Must have some financial need

Because it is funded by member contributions and investment gains only we count on our Members  to insure its growth.  Gary and Kim Zavislak serve as Member Chairpersons for this very worthy charity.  If you have questions please feel free to contact them:

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Several years ago, the Members of Birmingham Country Club established a scholarship program for our caddies and staff; the BCC Scholarship Trust.  The BCC Scholarship Trust provides as many as eight annual awards of up to $2,000 each to caddies and Club staff who meet the scholarship qualifications. The Trust was founded in 1993 and is our own, private scholarship. It is funded by Member contributions and investment gains.

The Scholarships are awarded annually each August/September to those successful candidates who the Scholarship Trustees believe are the most deserving. The scholarships are awarded primarily in recognition of academic accomplishments, with consideration of length of service, financial need, extracurricular activities, and evidence of personal development.

To be eligible for a Birmingham Country Club Scholarship you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Completed your senior year in high school;
  • with a 3.0 or better grade point average in high school, or in your last semester in college;
  • worked a minimum of 250 hours or a minimum of 50 loops (or a combination of hours worked and loops caddied – 1 loop is the equivalent of 4 hours service);
  • and demonstrate some financial need.

Each Application must also include a supportive letter of recommendation from your department’s manager and a photograph of you.

Scholarships will be paid to the employee and school jointly.  If you believe you qualify for the scholarship, you may obtain an application at the Front Desk of the clubhouse or download from the website.

The deadline for Scholarship Applications is Friday, August 21st.

Please submit your Scholarship Applications before the deadline to the Administrative Office on the second floor of the clubhouse. Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the stated deadline will not be accepted. Should you have any questions, please contact Michelle Emerson or myself.
