Members and Staff have embraced the Eagles for Children Charity transforming the lives of local children in need.   This year we raised $15,262  for 5 local charities.

Thank you to the Members for sponsoring the applications received.   Our committee, chaired by Pete & Sarah Kepic, along with Barry & Lynn Connelly, Mike & Sue McDermott, Matt & Susan Paroly, and Jim & Pam Ruthven, granted funds to the following charities:

Detroit Christo Rey High School

Awarded Program: Every morning at this Detroit-based Catholic high school, the cafeteria staff makes breakfast to feed over 150 students at no cost.  BCC’s grant will provide breakfast for one month to the qualified students at Detroit Cristo Rey.

Girls Matter/Kids Empowered

Awarded Program: “Surviving the Social Jungle” provides over 300 kids with skills and strategies to prevent bullying and build resilience and self-esteem to prevent teen suicides.

Redford Brigthmoor Initiative

Awarded Program: “One Stop Shop Toy, Winter Coat and Blanket Store” is open every Saturday.  Shoppers can select new and gently used clothing and toys fro their family.  This program has served more than 2000 families to date.  Each family will also receive a bag of groceries and a hot meal when they are done shopping.

Ted Lindsey Foundation

Awarded Program: “Pre-employment & Life Skills Development Project” is a 2-stage program that helps 13-17 year olds with ASD in getting and keeping a job once they graduate from high school.  This program assists in allowing these young people to live a more independent and meaningful life.

in 2019, nine country clubs awarded $415,020 to local children’s’ charities.  Since year one of Eagles for Children the total is $1,605,635.00. Birmingham Country Club members can be proud of their part in transforming the lives of children in need.

What is Eagles for Children?

The idea of using one great moment on the golf course, “an eagle,” to benefit thousands – or potentially millions of children in need, inspired program co-founders Hal Zaima and Don Kegley to test the Eagles for Children program at Oakland Hills Country Club in 2012. Three other area clubs agreed to join, and by the end of the season, the clubs had raised nearly $40,000, which was awarded to 14 different children’s charities in the Detroit Metropolitan area.

The Eagles for Children concept is simple:

-Each member pledges a minimum of $2 for every eagle scored by fellow members and their families at their club.

-Golfers report their eagles to the pro shop.

-The club’s accounting department tracks the donations and bills each member according to their tax-deductible pledge per eagle.

-At the end of the golf season, a committee from your club meets to determine which children’s nonprofit organizations will benefit from the generosity of your membership. 100% of the funds collected from each club is granted out each season.
